About the Enabling Unit
Government Medical College, Jagtial has constituted the Enabling Unit for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) in compliance with the NMC Circular dated 27.07.2026 and the provisions of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPwD) Act, 2016.
The Enabling Unit aims to promote an inclusive, accessible and supportive environment for students with benchmark disabilities. It facilitates appropriate academic, clinical and institutional support to ensure that PwBD students can participate effectively in academic, clinical and other institutional activities.
Objectives
- Promoting an inclusive and accessible learning environment for students with benchmark disabilities.
- Facilitating reasonable accommodation based on the individual requirements of students.
- Providing and coordinating necessary academic support.
- Facilitating appropriate support and accessibility during clinical training.
- Identifying and facilitating measures for barrier-free access within the institution.
- Coordinating with concerned departments and authorities to address the requirements of PwBD students.
- Creating awareness among students about disability support and the facilities available through the institution.

Support and Services
The Enabling Unit facilitates support for PwBD students in areas including:
- Reasonable accommodation and accessibility support.
- Academic support for effective participation in the academic programme.
- Clinical support and accessibility during clinical training, wherever required.
- Barrier-free access within the institution.
- Coordination with concerned departments and authorities.
- Assistance in addressing disability-related requirements.
- Maintenance of appropriate records of requests and support provided, while maintaining confidentiality and ensuring non-discrimination.
How to Seek Support
Students with benchmark disabilities who require accommodation, accessibility support, academic assistance, clinical support or any other disability-related assistance may approach the designated Single Point of Contact (SPOC).
The SPOC will coordinate with the concerned members and departments to facilitate appropriate support.
